docweasel.com, some of you probably noticed, has been down for several days. We house the site on our own servers, and we suffered a massive crash on two of them. We also rent server space to a number of other sites.
The servers are several years old and will cost thousands of dollars to replace. The docweasel.com site is sort of an exemplar and publicity site for a lot of the stuff the docweasel team does, but it doesn’t make any money. The popular forum, in fact, costs money to run and has never been in the black. Regular forum members may have noticed we have had downtime over the last year, sometimes lasting several hours. That’s because of the maintenance needed to keep the site up.
So, the bottom line is, we hope to be up again soon with new servers, but there’s a chance we won’t be, and we might sell the domain name. Its under discussion.
You can contact the staff using the email on this site. This blog is a group blog of contributors who all post under the name “docweasel” and who have also contributed to the docweasel.com site. There are also imposters all over the net who post comments and make accounts on forums and etc. claiming to be affiliated with the docweasel.com site. Only messages posted here or on the docweasel.com site are authentic and we disclaim any affiliation with anyone else calling themselves “docweasel”.
We’ve been up since late 1996. Its been a good run, even if we don’t get the site back up.
But there’s still hope for the weasel!
